National Dance Awards nominee 2025 Kennedy Junior Muntanga premieres a raw, shape-shifting solo that dives deep into fractured identities, power and survival through the lens of the African diaspora. Akropolis I introduces four bold characters – The Hare, The Lion, Eva, and The Commander – each embodying a different legacy of migration, memory and resistance. Charged, physical and cinematic, this is the first chapter of an ambitious trilogy exploring the realities of diasporic life across generations. Kennedy Junior Muntanga is a Zambian-born choreographer, artistic director, rehearsal director, movement practitioner, and writer based in the UK. His work is rooted in storytelling, movement research, and the transformative power of contemporary dance. He trained at CAPA College before progressing to Phoenix Dance Theatre Youth Company, the National Youth Dance Company, and Matthew Bourne’s New Adventures, later joining the Rambert School of Ballet & Contemporary Dance. As a performer, he has worked with leading artists including Akram Khan MBE, Humanhood, Sir Robert Cohan CBE, Alesandra Seutin, and Michael Keegan-Dolan.

As a choreographer, Kennedy has created work for organisations including Phoenix Dance Theatre, ACE Dance & Music, Trinity Laban, and London Contemporary Dance School, as well as his own company, Kennedy Muntanga Dance Theatre. His practice blends dynamic physicality with emotional depth, engaging audiences in meaningful ways. Alongside this, he has held leadership roles such as Artistic Director of Trinity Laban Youth Dance Company and Rehearsal Director for ACE Dance & Music, and has taught at English National Ballet School and Arts Educational Schools, continuing to shape and inspire the next generation of dancers.
