Written and choreographed by veteran dance artist Alan Greig, Within Reach is a humorousexploration of identity, queer culture, aging, and the cracked glamour of fame. Seamlessly blending eccentric spoken word monologues and crisp choreographed vignettes, the 40 minute dance theatre performance sees Greig skillfully slip between characters as he embodies LGBTQ+ icons Quentin Crisp, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis and Tennessee Williams. With humour, intimacy and physical virtuosity Greig invites the audience to join him as he celebrates these stars of queer culture, and to confront the difficult question of where these figures now belong in a world so focused on the young and the new. Drawing on his vast experience as a dancer and performer, Greig enthrals the audience from start to finish in a performance that truly celebrates the older artist, and which brings a lifetime of influences together in one performance.

About Alan:
Alan Greig is a Scottish dancer, choreographer, movement director and mentor with a career spanning over four decades. Trained at the Laban Centre and Central School of Ballet, and a scholarship student of Alwin Nikolais in New York, he founded X Factor Dance Company in 1990. As Artistic Director until 2009, he created 21 acclaimed works—including Sexual (1997), Unspoken (2000) and Into the Light (2009)—which toured extensively across the UK and internationally.

Alongside his company work, Alan has been widely commissioned by organisations in Scotland and worldwide, and has taught professionally since 1986 across community, educational and professional contexts. He continues to teach at Dance Base and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. In 2022, he developed his solo work Within Reach, presented in 2023 through partnerships with Dance Base, Dance Ireland and Hidden Door.
