Welcome & Important Information

Hello!
Thank you for your interest in applying to Innovations Dance Platform, Edinburgh 2026.
Criteria will vary between editions so please read specific information supplied carefully.

When applying to present your work as part of Innovations we ask artists to consider the following criteria to assess whether our platform is the right space to present your work. Innovations encourages submissions from artists identifying as disabled or from underrepresented backgrounds. If you have questions about the opportunity or the submission process, you can reach out to the team by email or book into one of our artist online drop in sessions! See details at the bottom of this page.

Eligibility

  • The intention of the work can be clearly articulated as part of the submission with substantial creative innovation.

  • The work can be presented effectively as part of a mixed-bill programme of work.

  • Works should be between 20-30minutes in duration. Longer works may be considered dependant on programming scope.

  • The work has not been made as part of undergraduate programmes and none of the company are in full time dance training. (excluding artists in postgraduate level studies)

  • Have a clear vision for the progression of the work beyond the platform and how your artistic career will be enriched by participation in Innovations.

  • Technical Requirements:

    • Your technical requirements are appropriate for a platform environment with a mixed bill of works. Any props used must be easily removable by the stage team between acts, if you have questions about your staging we encourage you to ask prior to submission.

    • We offer all companies dedicated technical support as part of their Innovations journey however, technical requirements may need adapting for the space.

    • Backdrop Projection is not available in the venue we use due to configuration.
Our venue is black box style with temporary wings in place. Submissions which rely on projection will be automatically rejected.

    • All submissions are reviewed by Dance Horizons’ production manager as part of the panel process.

  • Innovations is a paid opportunity with artist fees for the tech, performance days, required travel and expenses. Further details of which are made available at the earliest opportunity to shortlisted applicants to proceed in the programming process. Pay rates are set above the recommended ITC minimum. Access costs are also available.

  • Artists should be based within the UK or Europe. We recommend international artists to have funding in place to support travel costs where possible. Please detail this in your submission.

  • As part of Innovations 2026 we have pop-up performance opportunities outside of the mixed-bill platform. Please specify on your submission when prompted if you’d be interested in being considered for one of these slots and these will be curated separately once the mixed-bill programming is completed.
